Walter's Wellness Vet Visit

Walter lives his life as best he can considering his disabling medical conditions. Walter has severe gastrointestinal issues. At the early age of 9 months it was determined that he had pyloric dysfunction, which causes him to regurgitate his stomach contents. This makes him at risk for aspiration pneumonia. He has been put on a liquid diet to aid digestion. He takes several medications and supplements to help keep food down and eats from a slow-feed bowl to help prevent regurgitation.

Recently we had a genetic health test done on Walter. French Bulldogs are known for certain health conditions and we want to be as prepared as possible. We discovered that Walter carries the genetic markers for Chondrodystrophy and Intervetebral Disk Disease (IVDD). This means that Walter will have a long battle with disk and back issues. We are starting a proactive approach to his care and have scheduled him for a preliminary work up. On average surgery for these conditions can cost $8,000 to $10,000. This is the direct results of a bad breeding situation. Walter and a sibling were rescued from such a situation. He has suffered from several problems due to his mother being overbred and lack of medical checks.
